Ink is an important material for packaging material printing, which displays patterns and words on the substrate through printing. Ink consists of main components and auxiliary components, which are evenly mixed and repeatedly rolled into a viscous colloidal fluid.
(1) Main components of ink
① Pigment. Pigments include pigments and dyes, which are divided into organic pigments and inorganic pigments. The former has bright colors and strong coloring power, and is widely used in inks, such as azo pigments and phthalocyanine pigments; the latter has good light resistance, heat resistance, solvent resistance and concealment power, such as titanium white, cadmium red, chrome green, ultramarine, etc. Pigment is colored in particle state and does not dissolve. It is the most commonly used pigment in ink. When the dye is used, it is prepared into a solution and colored in molecular state, and the effect is not as good as pigment. Pigment can give ink with different color and color concentration, and make ink have certain viscosity and dryness.
② Binder. It is also one of the main components of ink. It acts as a medium for dispersing pigment and auxiliary material. It is made from a small amount of natural resin, synthetic resin, cellulose, rubber derivatives, etc. dissolved in dry oil or solvent. It has a certain fluidity, which makes the ink form a uniform thin layer after printing, and a film with a certain strength after drying, and has a protective effect on the pigment, making it difficult to fall off.
The binder has a great influence on the printability and printing effect of ink, such as transmissibility, brightness and fixation speed. Therefore, the selection of suitable binder is one of the keys to ensure good printing. The composition and proportion of binder should be adjusted at any time according to different packaging materials and printing requirements.
